Lovers of the colour purple are in for a treat from the Aunt Jobe’s Market High Voltage Mas Band this carnival. The mas band, which is set to launch on Sunday, March 1st, is focusing its 2009 presentation on that colour.{{more}}

The launch, set to take place at the Chamber of Commerce Car Park from 5pm, will showcase a hefty ten sections from which would-be masqueraders can choose. Band Leader Kingsley Collis was confident that the presentation, titled “In the Purple of Things”, would generate a lot of interest. “We expect that people will love the way we’ve used the colour purple.” Collis further rationalized that the colour is highly fashionable currently, so that would add to the mas band’s public appeal.

Solomon LaBorde, the band’s costume designer, seemed quietly confident with the individual sections. They include: Purple Rain, Two shades of Purple, Purple Heart, Feeling Purple, Splash of Purple, Purple Moon, Purple in Carnival, Royal Purple, Purple Stone and Purple Rose.

This being its 7th Carnival presentation, Collis was extremely optimistic that the mas band will do well this year. “We’re hoping to compete this year. Our expectations are high!” he enthused. Throwing down the gauntlet to rival mas bands, Collis boasted that High Voltage’s 2009 presentation is going to be one with a difference. “Watch out for High Voltage!”
