Minister of Culture René Baptiste is hoping that there will be increased opportunities for artistes to further their studies in the creative arts. The Minister said that we need to give the “creative arts a great deal of support”.

Minister Baptiste pointed out that for this year, she will be seeking opportunities for students to be trained in the arts. Baptiste said she wants young people to develop a “taste for the visual arts”. She explained that this year’s showcase was conceptualized for children by children, but she is hoping that the activities would expand.

Over 25 pieces of art by various artistes were on display, including a piece by a primary school student whose exhibit was added after one of the rural exhibitions.

A fashion segment, which showcased clothing from local designers, such as Jeremy Payne, Karen Defretias, Lisa Cordice and Kimya Glasgow, interpreted aspects of Vincentian culture.

The Exhibition opened on Sunday, January 25, 2009, and traveled throughout St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
