Do more for SVG sports

EDITOR: As we enter into a new year, I begin to feel a sense of despair and hopelessness for our children. Nothing has changed and will change. We are going to approach

the development of our children in the same manner as before.{{more}}

Everyone celebrated Usain Bolt’s victory at the Olympics, but would we ever be able to celebrate any of our own? I doubt so, at least not in the next 15 years. We are in this state because we simply focus on academics and nothing else. We have to start with the inner development in the children, getting them to believe in themselves and the power of God that is already within them. Sometimes it may take the form of indoctrination, but what is wrong in indoctrinating if it is to the good?

We are satisfied to produce a few doctors and lawyers, and that’s great. Where are the footballers, netballers and cricketers? You do not have to sacrifice one for the other.

We have reached a stage where we are only good at talking nonsense about politics everyday and have lost focus of the dreams and aspiration of our children. Where are sports in our schools today? Our people are mentally weak and it will continue to be so for a long time.

Politicians would like you to believe that they are the solution to your problems. That is far from the truth. The solution to your problems lies within you.

I guess we will have to continue looking at other country’s athletes on television.
