Belle Isle prison first phase to be completed by April
The Ministry of National Security has said that the first phase of the EC$20 million correctional facility at Belle Isle will be completed during the first quarter of 2009.
Permanent Secretary in that Ministry, Godfred Pompey, on Tuesday said that the final installation of equipment, to include the fencing and bunk beds for inmates, was on

Pompey said that a transitional team is now in place to prepare for the movement of close to 285 low risk inmates to Belle Isle.
Assistant Superintendent of Prisons, Linus Goodluck, is the officer in charge of the transitional move to Belle Isle.
A senior police officer, Superintendent Horace Williams, has been assigned to the Prisons Department to assist with this process.
Permanent Secretary Pompey has said that the second phase of the project will get under way by April this year. This will include facilities to house the medium and high risk inmates.
