LIME Schools Drama Festival 2008 ends

For the fifth year in a row, LIME has successfully partnered with the Ministry of Culture (in association with the Ministry of Education) to present the Schools Drama Festival, which comes to a close this afternoon at the Peace Memorial Hall.{{more}}

Having commenced on November 12, the Festival saw 16 Secondary Schools showcasing their acting skills to a varied audience. Namely: North Union Secondary, Thomas Saunders, Buccament Bay Secondary, Emmanuel High School (Mesopotamia), Dr JP Eustace Memorial, Sandy Bay Secondary, Girls High School, Georgetown Secondary, St. Martin’s Secondary, Intermediate High School, Bishops College Kingstown, St. Clair Dacon, Bethel High School, Adelphi Secondary, and, performing this afternoon, Troumaca Ontario Secondary and St. Joseph’s Convent Kingstown.

Martin Quashie, Drama Development Officer, was grateful to LIME for their years of support in nurturing young talent. “This is the fifth year that LIME, previously Cable & Wireless, is taking part in the Drama Festival. Without their support the Festival would not have been at the level that it is at today,” Quashie explained.

Minister of Culture René Baptiste highlighted the necessity of joining forces with corporations to improve the standards of festival such as this, and to foster good relations between the Government, businesses and the youth. “Corporate partnerships like these are important in developing young talent. We look forward to their continued support.”

Pleased with dramatic displays, LIME Marketing Manager Fitzgerald Huggins expressed his delight with the Festival. “The level of drama is good and the storylines are encouraging. It is my wish that our content providers will broadcast these plays for public viewing so that Vincentians can witness the talents that reside in our schools. LIME is pleased to be associated with these events, where kids can express themselves through drama!”
