Xora wins BCCU Public Speaking competition

The Barrouallie Co-operative Credit Union (BCCU) held its second annual primary schools’ public speaking competition recently as part of the celebrations to mark the Cooperative’s 50th Anniversary on December 12th, 2008.{{more}}

The event, which was held at the Kingdom Life Ministries Pentecostal Assembly, at Keartons, Barrouallie, had four schools participating: Layou Government, Barrouallie Government, Barrouallie Anglican and the Fitz Hughes Government. The students spoke in two categories – a prepared speech on the topic “What are the benefits derived from being a member of a Credit Union” and an impromptu speech on their picked topics – Nine Mornings, Early Savings, Wellness Revolution and Teachers Strike.

The winner of the prepared speech and overall winner was Xora Solomon, of the Barrouallie Anglican School. Second was Jemima Anderson, representing the Barrouallie Government School. In the third position was Kyron Westfield, of the Layou Government School, who also tied for the first position along with Xora in the impromptu speech in which they spoke on “Teachers’ Strike.”

The other participant was Zachari Simmons, representing the Fitz Hughes Government School. His impromptu topic was “Wellness Revolution”.

Barrouallie Co-operative Credit Union Ltd, a rural society, continues to strive at Fifty years in existence. It has a membership of approximately 800 members and asset base of EC$1.8 million.
