This time, FirstCaribbean will collaborate with NEMO on a National Schools All-Hazard Safety Programme which will ultimately see the nationâs schools much safer than before. The programme involves providing fire extinguishers, safety charts, posters and safety manuals to all schools as well as training workshops for teachers and PTA members. Retrofitting of selected schools to ensure safer exits for fire and earthquake evacuation, will also be undertaken.
FirstCaribbean is the first business house in the country to make a contribution to this important initiative. The bank says that its initial contribution will serve to jump start the programme and plans to contribute further to the initiative in 2009.
Last year, FirstCaribbean presented over thirty thousand hurricane tracking maps to NEMO in time for the hurricane season, as part of its continuing efforts to give back to the community and contribute to disaster risk reduction in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
