PM: I have no hard feelings for accuser

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves doesn’t have any hard feelings for the police-woman who accused him of raping and sexually assaulting her earlier this year.{{more}}

“I have no malice, no hatred, towards anyone,” Dr Gonsalves said at a press conference last Monday, September 29, held at Cabinet Room.

Two weeks ago, the woman changed Lawyers and discontinued the matter against Dr Gonsalves.

Dr Gonsalves was asked if he intended to take legal action against her for defamation of character.

“I am not getting involved in any confrontation with Lawyers or anybody else,” was his response.

“I am the Prime Minister of this country and I have been asked to do a certain amount of work by the people and I am doing the work and I am not being sidetracked from the work which I am doing.”

Two weeks ago, the woman’s new Lawyer, Jaundy Martin, who replaced Kay Bacchus Browne and Nicole Sylvester, said that the woman was tired and traumatized and just wanted to get rid of the matter.

When the matter was dropped, it was a surprising move in the seven-month long legal saga.

The replaced Lawyers have questioned the move, suggesting that the woman and her family may have been paid off in exchange for dropping the charges.

In a statement issued last week, the woman’s mother dispelled this, saying that the decision was made outside of any inducement. (KJ)
