This announcement was made following the conclusion of the latest phase of the Pan Against Crime Programme in the Central Leeward town last Sunday.
The event, which took place at the Layou hard court, featured a series of performances, including music from the local police force band, dances, skits and, of course, pan music.
The gathering, consisting mainly of young children, was encouraged by a number of guest speakers, including Commissioner of Police Keith Miller, Youlou Pan Movement representative Fidel Taylor, and popular community Pastor Noel Clarke, to take up pan playing as opposed to being lured by crime and violence.
Layou now joins other communities which have benefitted from SVGSIF sponsored pan sides, since the Pan Against Crime Initiative began earlier this year.
To date, the collaboration between the Youlou Pan Movement and the Ministry of National Security has visited eight communities, with the next event scheduled to take place this Sunday in Biabou.
The theme of the Pan against Crime project is âPlay a pan, arrange a song, build the mind, down with violence and crime.â(JJ)
