At a brief press conference on Tuesday, representatives of Total Fm (100.5) and Ezee Radio (102.7,91.1) announced the merger which takes effect in just under two months time.

Head of Sales and Marketing of SVG Broadcasting Corporation Candice Sealy said that the decision for the stations to join forces is one which is beneficial to both stations.

“We see this as a strategic move since SVGBC and Total Com Network will now have economies of scale, with regards to market share, coverage, human resources, infrastructure and operational cost.”

“This means that the listeners of Ezee and Total will have more listening options and enjoy programming from Ezee Radio.”

In the merger, some of Total’s programming will be included in Ezee radio’s line up, including the popular Sunday program ‘Round Table talk’, as well other musical programs.

The move also means that the operations of both stations will take place under the roof of Ezee Radio, situated at Dorsetshire Hill, and a number of the five fulltime employees of Total are about to lose their jobs.

“As with any merger there will be layoffs,” said Sealy.

“In this case, the employees of Total FM will reapply to SVGBC for employment.”

Manager of Total FM Jacqueline Quashie indicated that the merger would enable them to reach a wider audience, and listeners will have more to enjoy.

Quashie noted that she is very pleased with the joint venture and is certain that both companies will enjoy a long lasting relationship.

SVG Broadcasting Corporation, which came into existence with SVGTV in 1980, acquired its first FM station (HITZ FM 103.7, 91.5) in 1997.

Ezee Radio came on air in 2007. Total FM came on stream in 2005. (JJ)
