This project is called Youth-For-Net, the brainchild of the Calliaqua Area Development Organisation (CADO) Netball sub-committee, and has the financial backing of Cable & Wireless, this countryâs only full service telecommunications provider.
The Youth-For-Net program, which will run for three months, will focus mainly on development of the young minds and their Netball skills. CADO is an affiliate member of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association.
Co-ordinator of the program Sonja Lewis said: âIâm pleased that Cable & Wireless is partnering with CADO in the sustainable development of Netball. This programme is timely and promises to be exciting, as it seeks to create in the youths an awareness of the sport of Netball, and at the same time focuses on their overall development.â
The programme will be conducted with assistance from high level and qualified coaches like Woodrow âKillyâ Williams, Natasha Medford, Michelle Guy, Cecelia Richards, and many more past national athletes who continue to contribute to the development of netball. According to Natasha Medford, the main objective of this programme is for âbuilding self esteem, confidence and skill levels of these young netballers (which) are key to the success of this program. We will be coaching in teamwork, netball techniques, nutrition and diet. This programme is well rounded to deal with personal development as well as skill levelsâ.
Country Manager of Cable & Wireless Angus Steele said Netball is a sport that needs restructuring and building from the bottom. âOur company has been pushing for such development for a while, and we are pleased to be associated with this community effort. We have been working with communities like Rose Place, Sion Hill, and this project is just another one that we are excited about.â
Cable & Wireless is also the main sponsor of the Sion Hill Community Football competition.
