Anthony Douglas and his wife Evelyn told SEARCHLIGHT that they had bought lunch at a snackette in Kingstown just around midday on Wednesday when they made their unexpected discovery.
Anthony said he and his wife had almost finished their lunch when a cockroach fell out of a piece of fish. Douglas said he carried the food to the cashier and showed her the roach, but he was directed to the manager. The visibly upset Douglas related that the manager took him to his office and apologized for what happened and said that the roach got there when the food was being shared but it was not in the food while it was being cooked. âI am not satisfied with that. Something better has to be done, and this is not the end of this,â Douglas said. He told Searchlight that he has already lodged a complaint with the Public Health Department about the matter.
The snackette owner, however, told Searchlight that it was Douglasâ wife who came to him and complained about what had happened. The proprietor said he apologized to her and offered a refund of her money, but said she refused. âWe were willing to do anything to rectify the situation,â he said. He also stated that when the food was shown to him, it was already consumed and says it is impossible for them to ascertain where it came from. The businessman further added that some persons state such claims just to make money. (KW)
