PMC to host Independence jubilant unity celebration
During the week of the 29th anniversary of our constitutional independence, the Peopleâs Movement for Change (PMC) will host a âjubilant unity celebrationâ.
In a release from the PMC, an invitation was issued to all Vincentians and friends to share in âthis unveiling of the meaning of our independenceâ.{{more}} Along with music, dance and craft of items of praise, thanks and appreciation, the programme will also hear the record of critical accomplishments and challenges of our State and people over the longer haul and into the future.
âIt will be an exulting
and a sober general assembly of our nation. The theme chosen for the event is âOne People, One Nationâ. The PMC, therefore, invites the members of all families, social organisations, religious business, sporting, educational and political groups and blocks to come enliven and claim this celebration of St. Vincent and the Grenadines,â the release said.
According to the release, âThe Peopleâs Movement for Change, since our launch on 31st July 2008 has continued to meet with people and share the burdens and concerns that they bear and express. We have emerged at a time when our nation faces some unrelenting challenges and pitfalls as well as hidden and open opportunity. We in the PMC are contemplating how our people may be led through this painful time. We know that we are not the only agonising yet hopeful organisation, but we are determined to make a difference between failures, false assurance and fundamental change. As we work to shape broad opinion positively, we will generate positive change. And so the PMC is looking at the issues which must take priority among us âCountry before self, People before Party/Politicsâ is one major issue. There are others.â
In an election held on September 12, 2008, Jomo Thomas was elected the PMCâs General Secretary with Oscar Allen as Chairman.
The movement is also formally calling persons to become members of the PMC. âYou will share in the shaping of our programme and the reform of our nation. We are persuaded that at this time, the people and State need the PMC,â the release ended.
