Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, Justice Hugh Rawlins, appointed Bruce-Lyle in June this year. The announcement was made last week Tuesday at a special sitting of the High Court.

Speaking to Justice Bruce-Lyle in Chambers on Monday, he said that the position comes with huge and serious responsibilities. He added he is honoured to be part of the Commission and that he would be carrying out his duties with great zeal.

The Judicial and Legal Services Commission is responsible for all appointments to the judiciary and legal services of all OECS countries. The Committee has also been charged with the responsibility of revocation of appointments and disciplinary matters.

Bruce-Lyle is one of three new members appointed to the Committee, which has as its Chairman Chief Justice Hugh Rawlins. The other new members are retired Court of Appeal Judge Michael Gordon, Frank Myers, Chairman of the St. Lucia Public Service Commission, and Bruce Lyle.

The new members replace retired Court of Appeal Judge Albert Redhead, retired Judge Monica Joseph and Dr Joseph Halliday.

The Commission, which is based in St Lucia, will be holding its next meeting on October 7, 2008, in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
