Youth still battling with pain from near-death accident

Alex Snagg, the nine-year-old Canouan boy who escaped death during a freak accident two weeks ago, is out of the hospital, but is far from fully recovered.{{more}}

Alex, who was featured on the front page of (Friday, September 5) SEARCHLIGHT, is still recovering from neck injuries which he suffered when a rope being used to tow a vehicle broke, hit him and wrapped around his neck.

The grade 4 student spent 10 days in hospital until he was discharged and returned to Canouan.

When SEARCHLIGHT caught up with Alex and his mother Kesilda, she said that he is still waking up every night complaining of pain in his neck and back.

He receives daily treatment at the Canouan Health Centre, and it still isn’t clear when he will be able to return to school.

Meanwhile, Kesilda said that she has left the matter in the hands of the law because she wants to get what ever assistance and compensation that the law deems necessary for her son.

“I am planning to follow through with this matter because with the pains he feels you don’t know what may be wrong with him in the future,” she said.

Keslida said that she is hoping that in a month or two Alex will be able to return to school.

Police sources in Canouan told SEARCHLIGHT that investigations into the accident are still ongoing.(KJ)
