Bruce-Lyle made his feelings known while addressing the special sitting of the High Court on Monday at the beginning of the Law year. âI have worked all over, and this is the best I have seen since I have been a judge,â he remarked.
The High Court judge noted that when he arrived here 1989, he was receiving 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. security, but this has since increased to a 24-hour period. The outspoken judge said that he feels even more secure now that a security keypad system has been installed outside his chambers at the High Court. âI was afraid at times that someone would come in and beat me up,â Bruce-Lyle said with a chuckle.
He mentioned that some judges in the Caribbean have not been exposed to the kind of top-notch security which obtains in St Vincent and the Grenadines. Some judges have been victims of multiple burglaries throughout the Caribbean because of the lack of police security at judgesâ residences. Bruce-Lyle thanked the government for looking into their safety.
Meanwhile, Attorney General Judith Jones Morgan has indicated that measures are being taken to beef up the security of both the judgesâ and magistratesâ residences. Jones-Morgan noted that this country recognizes the importance of putting proper security measures in place for judges and magistrates.
Come next year, when the new judgeâs residence is being constructed, a revised security design plan will be in place to allow for added security. (KW)
