The course, which was held in conjunction with the National Development Foundation (NDF), covered the areas of Effective Research, Figure Drawing, Fashion Forecasting, Design Development, History of Fashion, Fashion Illustration, Flats and Specification Drawings, Mood Board and Fabric Board Development, etc.

Participants got a taste of a real world design situation, in which they were given design projects to research, complete and present.

According to the facilitator Kimya Glasgow: “I am very pleased with the outcome. I saw a lot of natural talent and energy in this group. They now have a better idea of what the industry requires of them as designers and how to develop their ideas and inspiration effectively. This will be an on-going effort for me, and it would be great for the students to put some of their ideas into production. At some point we would like to display the initial project with the finished product and items showing all the production stages in between, so interested persons can get a better sense of the entire design process. I am extremely proud of them as this was a lot of work to absorb in a short space of time”.

Hermia Neehall of the NDF went on to register her support of the workshop. “Our nation’s future depends on our young people, and we at the NDF have a vision for our youth. We are going to continue to support our young people in areas such as Fashion, which is a new area for us, as we see the potential for much positive growth.”

The six participants, Rhondel Dickson, Karen DeFreitas, Sherika Sayers, Aisha Horne, Ashannia Allan, Terranza Franklyn were awarded certificates of participation.
