At a press conference held at Ministry of Conference room on Wednesday, 10th September, Minister of Agriculture Montgomery Daniel gave an update on the progress of plans for the exhibition and Caribbean week of Agriculture scheduled for October 8 to 12.

The exhibition, which is held every five years, will be hosted under the theme “Innovative Agriculture and Agro Industry – Fuel for Sustainable development”.

There is expected to be on display innovative demonstrations on new technologies and equipment used in the sector, Agro-based products and value added investment initiatives.

Also on the timetable of events are a number of calypso and cultural events. A Vincy callaloo and fish night is also included.

The exhibition will climax on Sunday, October 12th, with a prize giving ceremony, pet show and animal parade.

Daniel said the exhibition is being hosted to encourage local consumption and showcase the various opportunities that would stimulate an interest in agriculture.

He stated that with a rise in food prices, there is a need for Vincentians “to eat what you grow and grow what you eat”. Daniel expressed that in so doing, they are demonstrating a healthier lifestyle.

The Minister said that the exhibition will help to create a number of opportunities for farmers.

Daniel mentioned that the response of farmers and the business sector to the exhibition has been “quite excellent”.

Platinum sponsor of the exhibition National Lotteries Authority (NLA) handed over a cheque of $20,000 at the press conference. (VM)
