After nearly two months of preliminary judging, the finalists were able to meet face to face at a press conference held on Tuesday evening at the Pier One Restaurant in Kingstown.
The DJs: Kid Supreme, Dappa, Dancehall Magistrate, Baff, and Stone will come up against last yearâs champion Dj Kal for the $3,000 grand prize, while the dance category, which was introduced for the first time this year, will see Delroy âTootsâ Greg taking on groups Crossover Dancers and Ground Breakers for the $2,000 first prize.
At the press conference, event coordinator Dwight âBingâ Joseph outlined the rules of the competition to the finalists.
He stipulated that the dancers will be allowed ten minutes to do their routine, which should include the Green Synergy dance steps, while the DJs were allotted 20 minutes for their set.
The performers will also be judged on crowd response, mixing and dancing techniques, among other areas.
The DJs were urged to refrain from using profanity in their sets, which could lead to an automatic disqualification.
The winning DJ will represent St. Vincent and the Grenadines in Barbados on September 20th against DJs from Barbados, Antigua, Anguilla, St. Lucia and Grenada.
The grand finale is set for Curacao on October 26th. (JJ)
