Bacchus-Browne: I have a right to choose

Whether her political affiliation lies with the Unity Labour Party or the New Democratic Party, top defence attorney Kay Bacchus-Browne is maintaining that it does not interfere with her practice of the law.{{more}}

Speaking to Searchlight on Wednesday, Bacchus-Browne said that a “nasty trend” is creeping into this country and that it needs to stop. “As soon as a lawyer takes up a matter that touches the current administration, they attack the lawyer,” the outspoken lawyer stated.

Bacchus-Browne was at the time speaking to Searchlight about the matter involving her client Elwardo “EG” Lynch who has been charged with two counts of criminal libel against a government official on his radio programme “New Times.”

With 31 years of practice under her belt, Bacchus-Browne said that previously, no one ever attacked her on political grounds for taking a particular case. “This is a nasty trend and I am being labeled for something that I am not. I have a right to choose which party I want to because it’s my constitutional right,” she stated.

The veteran attorney further stated that she also has a right to choose any case she pleases and that’s her choice. “All of a sudden, I am the biggest political lawyer, seems like anything you say nowadays, you’re either being charged for sedition, or criminal libel. They are trying to muzzle people.”
