Ursula Streit, who owns a home in Palm Island, first contributed equipment to the hospital in 2002. She then assisted with the rebuilding of the hospital in 2004, when it suffered significant damage with the passing of hurricane Ivan.
She has also been involved in many other community aid projects and has vowed to continue to support the further development of the health care system of the island.
Streit, who has also been involved in many other community aid projects, has vowed her continued support in whatever capacity needed for the further development of the health care system on Union Island.
At a brief handing over ceremony held at the Clifton, Union Island, Clinic recently, parliamentary representative for the Southern Grenadines Terrance Ollivierre expressed his gratitude to Striet for her continued support and requested that the hospital staff take special care of the equipment.
He also encouraged them to rise above the challenges of working in the Grenadines and to continue to deliver a high standard of care to their patients.
Meanwhile, resident doctor on the island Dr Yaphet Shoy gave an overview of the equipment, especially the Cardiac monitor, which he said is multifaceted. It can test the oxygen level in the blood as well as a patientâs blood pressure and more. The information from the monitor can also be transferred to another location via the Internet.
He described the donation as timely. Joyce Jackson, who represented Streit at the handing over, said that while she couldnât be present for the handing over because she was out of state, she sent her heartfelt love for the people of Union Island.
