29.AUG.08

The JEMS Theater Company, the cultural and performing arts body within the JEMS Progressive Community Organization, will once again be performing their hit off Broadway Caribbean play here in St.Vincent and the Grenadines.{{more}}

After sold out performances in New York, Montreal, Toronto, Miami and right here in St.Vincent and the Grenadines, the production is set to return at the end of 2008 at the Peace Memorial Hall, with plans slated for performances throughout various rural communities.

The play is back by popular demand and to mark the 30th anniversary of JEMS. The play was performed here previously in conjunction with the Rotary Club South. It received rave reviews after two sold out performances in December of 2006 at the Peace Memorial Hall. Due to high patron turn out, hundreds of theatergoers were unable to be accommodated. To avoid a repeat of this inconvenience, the play is set to be staged in selected rural communities throughout St.Vincent and the Grenadines.

The play “Tables Will Turn” is the first ever off Broadway Caribbean play to open in a major theater in the United Sates. It opened in the fall of 2006 with rave reviews and consecutive sold out performances at the famous black Paul Robeson Theater in New York City. The play is written and directed by Vincentian playwright Jerol Huggins-Jackson and consists of an all Vincentian cast.

In an effort to further promote local talent on an international level, JEMS is in search of two local talents to be a part of their cast lineup. One male and one female between the ages of 18 and 30 years of age will be selected in an up coming audition to be held at the JEMS headquarters located at Enhams.

The audition will be held on Monday, September 01, 2008, at 6pm. The audition will be open to the general public. Previous acting experience is not required but will be taken into consideration. All applicants will be evaluated and a selection process will be made.

Interested applicants must be flexible, creative, dramatic, spontaneous, able to work independently and as a team, must posses strong oral communication skills and must be willing to travel locally and internationally.

Interested applicants may submit a letter of interest to www.info@JEMSunited.org with their names, address and telephone numbers, or contact Andrew Simmons at 532-3009. For more information about JEMS and to learn more about the play please visit www.JEMSunited.org.
