This is the 10th year that BCCU has given bursaries to successful students, and this year, which is a milestone year, being their fiftieth (50th) anniversary also, the Barrouallie Co-operative Credit Union Limited awarded its first ever scholarship.

At the ceremony held at the BCCU Conference Room, Chelsea Adams, Goldeen Kirby, Britney Anderson, Terricia John, Maxine Gabriel, whose parents are members, and Daryl-ann Delpesche and Yowani Bartholomew from the Youth Comprehensive Fund received their packages. There were six females and one male. Along with these seven students, there was an eight successful student, Arifa Shoy, who was awarded the five year scholarship also at this ceremony.

Addresses were delivered by representatives from the Board of Directors, other committees of the organisation and the Credit Union League who encouraged students to make the best use of the time they spend at the secondary school and see it as the stepping stone to further educational opportunities. They also reminded them that this is a start of a baton race and this the first leg so they must not rest but continue till the end.

Frances Shoy, the parent of the scholarship recipient, thanked the Credit Union for the interest it is showing in education, and as a parent encouraged all the parents to show as much interest as they can in their children and encourage them. She also encouraged the children to continue studying to achieve their goals.
