Tenth Carifesta begins in Guyana

This country’s contingent to the tenth edition of the Caribbean festival of Arts (CARIFESTA) was scheduled to leave these shores today for Guyana, to participate in the region’s only multidisciplinary festival.{{more}}

St. Vincent and the Grenadines joins close to 30 other countries participating in over 15 events at 25 venues across the South American nation.

SVG’s first appearance will be at the grand opening ceremony, which is expected to feature millions of dollars in fireworks, among other attractions.

Culture Minister René Baptiste will lead this country’s delegation of more than thirty performers and officials.

Participants include Ronique Dellimore, Miss SVG and Carival 2008, Calypso Monarch 2008 Princess Monique. Also on show will be literary works and stamp collections, performances in the visual, performing and cultural arts, as well as a youth forum, fashion focus, activities of the indigenous peoples and grand market and fair trade.

CARIFESTA was first held in 1972 in Guyana.
