New venue set for Million Dollar Walk

Initial disappointment has now been transformed into intense focus for the walking team in New York for the ‘Million Dollar walk’.{{more}}

Having journeyed to the US on August 13th in anticipation of the August 16th start of the mammoth walk from Niagara Falls, Canada, to Brooklyn, New York, the million Dollar team had to grapple with a major disappointment. Within a day of the team’s arrival, they were advised that another US$12,000 was required to obtain the requisite licences and permits to convene the walk. Being a fund raising charitable event, these unforeseen expenses rendered the walk prohibitive.

The management team quickly sprung into action and drafted several other influential Vincentians onto the organizing committee, who, in true Vincy spirit and utilizing many contacts, were finally able to secure approval for a revised “Million Dollar Walk”.

The BIG WALK will still be held over eight days without sleep, but will see the walkers confined to walking around the 585-acre Prospect Park in Brooklyn. The 3.35 miles roadway will be covered several times over the eight days as the walking duo engages the Guinness Book of Records category of defying medical science. That body has already been advised on the changes of the walk details.

Vincentians and other Caribbean Nationals in New York are now preparing to lend full support to THE BIG WALK at the new venue.
