Another batch of young Vincentian students are now in Taiwan pursuing three and five year courses of study at various universities, thanks to the ongoing relationship between that country and the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.{{more}}

Last Friday, the students, who will be working towards their bachelor’s and master’s degrees, met with newly appointed Taiwanese Ambassador Leo Lee at the Cobblestone Inn for a brief send off.

At the gathering, the students – Adriana King (Master’s- International Environment for Sustainable Development), Tasheka Haynes (Master’s – International Agriculture Policy Development), Melessa Ballantyne (Bachelor’s – Mass Communications), Calvert Edwards (Bachelor’s – Electrical Engineering), Lemura Samuel (Bachelor’s – Microbiology), and Veronique Bailey (Bachelor’s – Chemical Engineering) collected their stipends, along with other documents for their trip.

Ambassador Lee wished the students well during their tenure in Taiwan and urged them to focus on the reason for being there.

He also used the opportunity to reaffirm his country’s commitment to the Education Revolution of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Before starting their specific areas of study, the students, with ages ranging from 18 to 28 years, will spend the first year learning Mandarin Chinese.

Although they look forward to the experience, the students claim that they will miss home very much.(JJ)
