The Prime Minister, who was featured speaker at the ceremony which took place at the Inland Revenue Department last Friday August 8th, revealed to those present that he had three remaining personal goals in life.
Gonsalves said that the internal reflection was in response to a question asked by his daughter Isis concerning his remaining ambitions.
âIâm not talking about the ambition for the young people of this country and the poor and the nation as a whole and for the region, but personal ones.â
âI donât wear my beliefs on my sleeve, but at times like these, I can speak a little about it. I was reflecting on it this morning after I read the Psalms.â
âThe first one is at the moment of my death I must have no more sins to confess; that is to say I confess them on an ongoing basis.â
âThe second: that at the moment of my death I must have no enemies whatsoever; other persons can have me as their enemy, but I will have none; so I go to meet St. Peter with a pure and friendly heart.â
âAnd the third one: at the moment of my death I must own nothing!â
âI will put my affairs in such a way that at the moment of my death somebody will have to bury me. I mustnât own anything at all and I am putting my affairs in such a way that you donât have to administer anything for me, that you donât have to probate no will.â
The Prime Minister acknowledged that after death, the souls of all men will be judged in the same way, regardless of their status in life.
He indicated that he hoped to live long enough to have his personal goals realized.
âIâm not yet in my autumnal years. I have gone past my spring and I think I am still in my summer. I hope to live to 100. I donât know whether that is hope over expectation.â(JJ)
