Last Thursday, Minister of Housing and Physical Planning, Senator Julian Francis met with a large gathering of vendors and other concerned citizens at the Campden Park Secondary School to present his case for the clean up plan.
Minister Francis made a presentation, armed with a slideshow highlighting the untidiness and disorder that prevails in the city with the vendors. He said that while he understands that the vendors need to make a living, âWe have to be organized; we have to do it in an orderly manner.â
He said that when the sidewalks are blocked up by vendors, the businesses that they sell in front of are affected. Minister Francis pointed to Paulâs Avenue, using before and after photographs to show what proper planning and cleaning up of disorderly business operations could do for an area.
SEARCHLIGHT spoke to several vendors who generally accepted that the city was in need of a cleaning up; however they stressed that it was important that proper arrangements be made for them so that they could ply their trades.(KJ)
