BVI Vincentian Association elects new Executive

The Vincentian Association of the Virgin Islands held its annual General elections July 24th where a new vibrant executive was elected to serve for another financial year.{{more}}
Sean Rose was re-elected President, unopposed, for a second consecutive term.
Bishop Ishmael Charles was also elected un-opposed to serve as first Vice President of the Association while Cheryl Questelles will serve as 2nd Vice President.
Other members of the new executive include; Treasurer, Patrick Browne, Assistant Treasurer, Christian Cottoy, Secretary, Kenrick Grant and Assistant Secretary Sharon Roberts.
Gayle Scotland, Erica Simmons-Ollivierre and Wendell Ballantyne would serve as Public Relations Officers.
President Rose has charged the new executive and the entire Vincentian Community in the Virgin Islands to âbe much more vigilant as a community to stamp out unlawful practicesââ saying âWe donât need any more negativity; we donât need any more troubleâ.
The President said Vincentians in the BVI have to become a much more unified and loving people to confront not just the global food and energy crisis, but also to confront health issues such as Diabetes and Hypertension, Prostate and other cancers, and HIV/Aids among other health and social ills in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and also within the Virgin islands community where over two Thousand (2000) Vincentians live and work.
Rose said these are all real issues that can be addressed in this life time, urging the members of the association to continue making a difference by keeping the organization alive and active.
Meanwhile, a daughter of Vincentian soil Marquita Richards was crowned Miss BVI 2008-200 during the 2008 BVI August festival Emancipation celebrations while three Vincentian calypsonians dominated this years BVI Calypso competition. Gary âFreedom Fighterâ Cain, was crowned King of Calypso in the BVI, while Reynold âKing Paidoâ Phillips came in third and fourth was âOjingaâ Cato. Last years Queen of Calypso, Makisha Gordan of the BVI placed second.
Living up to the October 2007 independence theme of the Vincy Association
âStriving for excellence in the Diasporaâ, Orano Andrews won the 2008 Tour de Tortola race on Sunday August 9th in a time of 2 hrs, 30min, 40 secs giving him his 3rd win in a row in the BVI. Second was Andrea Vaght of Italy in 2hrs, 30 mins, 42 secs, and Chris Ghiorse of the BVI third in 2 hrs, 39 mins, 55 secs. Orano is an active member of the association.
President Sean Rose extended congratulations to the outstanding Vincentian nationals in the BVI, commending them for helping to not only make the Vincentian community at home and abroad proud but especially to help paint the Vincentian community in the BVI in a positive light.
Rose says each individual would be recognized appropriately during the 2008 Independence dinner scheduled for October 11th.
The association will convene its next general meeting on Thursday, August 21st at the Brumant Fellowship hall of the New testament Church of God, Baughers bay Tortola, at 7p.m. Digicel CEO, BVI Mr. Allan Bates is expected to be the guest Speaker at the meeting.
