Full scholarships were awarded to Jonell Charles, of Calliaqua, who received the Rosbert Humphrey Scholarship; Mariah Edwards, of Largo Height, Zinnell Gill, of Biabou, and Tafari Robertson, of Prospect.

Those receiving first year $500 bursaries are Zonesha Ashton, of Sandy Bay; Vannelle Baptiste, of South Rivers; Ronisha Bowman, of Brighton; Grantley Bramble, of Chateaubelair; Haverson Caine, of Georgetown; Shaneika Craigg, of Villa; Glenroy Cupid, of Hopewell; Imron John, of Georgetown; Joron Kydd, of Paul Over; Timothy Richards, of Lodge Village; and Keshorn Ryan, of Sion Hill.

The scholarships and bursaries were awarded at Basil’s Bar Kingstown on Thursday, August 7, 2008. The Basil Charles Educational Foundation currently has more than 30 students under scholarship or bursary, bringing to the total the number of children who have been through the programme to over 70 children. The Basil Charles Educational Foundation began in 1995 as Basil began to build his world famous Blues Festival. Proceeds from the Festival, the sale of the CD’s and donations fund the Foundation.

Inspired by the success of early and informal bursaries and scholarships, most notably Rosbert Humphrey, now a senior banking executive, the Foundation has worked not just to send children to school but also has recently installed a computer lab valued at over $100,000 at the Community College and provided kitchen equipment to the Technical College.
