Zoelah zooming in on the International Soca Awards

Two years ago she was broke, practically homeless and depressed about her mother’s illness and subsequent death, but today 24-year-old Vincy Soca Diva Zeolah Boyde is riding high on a wave of success.{{more}}

Last year Zoelah won Best New Song at the launch of Carnival with the runaway hit “Go down low”. Her other song “Fly away” also received a measure of success. Zoelah also copped endorsement deals with Digicel and Courts and performed in the Caribbean, USA, Canada and England.

For 2008, Zoelah again won the Best New Song award with “Zoom in”. Her other numbers “Wine up on me” and “In the air” are also doing well, and her endorsements deals with Digicel and Courts were renewed.

In an exclusive interview, Zoelah told SEARCHLIGHT that although she was more focused last year, she is also very proud of her achievements this year and that the industry politics have surely grown stronger. Boyde said that she would like to extend her heart-felt appreciation the media houses, DJs, producers, sponsors, fans and all who have contributed to her success.

For this talented Campden Park lass, the accolades can only keep mounting as she has been nominated in six categories for the 6th International Soca Awards to be held in St Kitts in October at the Marriott Centre.

Zoelah has been nominated for Best New Female Artiste, Female Soca Vocalist of the year and Favourite Groove Soca for “Go down low”, Female Soca Performer of the year”, All Over Female Soca Artiste of the Year, and Favourite Up-Tempo Soca-Female with “Fly away”.

Three other Vincy artistes were also nominated: Problem Child for Best New Male Soca Artist, Beat Soca Collaboration Groove for “Secret Agent” with Jadine, Favourite Soca Groove-Male and Soca Song of the Year for “Party Animal”. Jamesy P received two nominations for Best Soca Collaboration Groove for “Do Me Baby” with Cecille and Soca Artist Album/CD of the Year with Work of Art. Kevin Lyttle copped the Male Soca Vocalist of the Year with Fire. Fans can log on to www.socaawards.com to vote for their favourite artiste.
