Assistant Chairman Cornelius Archibald, along with a few members of the organisation, received the donation of one chainsaw from the National Fair Trade Association (NFTA) at a handing over ceremony held on Tuesday, July 29th.
Philemon Allen, NFTA Chairman, made the presentation and emphasized how keen his Association had been to comply with part of GEMOâs request. âWe looked at the whole list that was sent and saw the need for the saw…â Allen further related that GEMO operates through the Greiggs Fair Trade Group. â…They saw it fitting to have an organisation that will help in the mitigation in disaster preparedness.â
Upon approaching a NEMO representative for equipment donations, their case was referred to the NFTA. Founded 3 – 4 years ago, this is the first piece of equipment that GEMO has received. Assistant Chairman Archibald was confident that this would not be the last. âAs time goes on we will see what other equipment we can get.â
The organisation may not yet have been involved in any disaster cleanups but it is evident that they fully subscribe to the old adage âIt is better to be safe than sorryâ. (JSV)
