Held last Saturday, July 26, the Digicel Soca Monarch Competition was won by Joel ‘Multivator’ Hoyte with his song ‘Jump up in the band’. He received EC$1200 for his effort. Second place in the competition went to Phil ‘Super Flex’ DaSilva with his song ‘Fire Brigade’ and in third spot was Maxwell ‘Slider’ Moses with ‘Bumper Calling’. They received EC$850 and EC$600 respectively.

On hand to deliver the prize money last Sunday was Country Manager of Digicel Sonia Polius.

Said Polius, “Too often the Grenadines are forgotten and Digicel’s intention is to support culture in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.”

Soca King Hoyte thanked Digicel for their contribution to Canouan Carnival.

The group responsible for organizing Canouan Carnival is Club Nuevo. Public Relations Officer and President of Club Nuevo Hansel Henry said that Digicel has been on board with them for five years now. “I thank Digicel because apart from sponsorship money they also gave away bandanas, water bottles and other gifts which are always appreciated by the revelers; we look forward to their continued support.”

This year, the Canouan Carnival carried the slogan, “Let’s make it great for Canouan Carnival 2K8”.
