Carnival winners receive prize money
The absence of a number of major winners at the prize giving ceremony for just concluded Vincy Mas 2008 did not put a damper on the ceremony held by the Carnival Development Corporation last Saturday.{{more}}
The absence was seen as a good thing for the performers, especially soca artistes, who were said to be in the region or overseas plying their trade.
But those present were lauded for their work during the Carnival season, and encouraged to do even better, not only by the Minister of Culture Rene Baptiste, but also Acting Chairman of the CDC Lennox Bowman and Chairman of Pan/kai/mas Hugh Raguette.
Some major winners available to accept trophies and cash prizes included Miss SVG and Miss Carival Ronique Dellimore, Calypso Monarch Monique âPrincess Moniqueâ Hector, and junior winners Hans John, Terancia Cornwall and Daneisha Simmons.
Mas bands, pan sides and Jâouvert band Jâouvert Fanatics were well represented at the ceremony which took place at the Cruise Ship Terminal in Kingstown. Supporters were on hand to see the Starlift Steel Orchestra being awarded for doing the double in the Junior and Senior panorama competitions.
The same goes for KFC SVG Players International which cleaned up Junior and Senior Band of the Year awards with their presentation of Exotica: Wonders of Nature.
Awards were also handed out to the Fanatics who took first position in all categories.
Before celebrations were even completed, plans were already in place for next yearâs event scheduled for June 26th to July 7th, 2009. (JJ)
