First runner up Nekesha Adams left the island yesterday, July 24th, chaperoned by Avis Yorke, Deputy Chairperson of the Beauty Shows Committee, to represent SVG in the 12th Annual âMiss Ecstasy Internationalâ pageant. Taking place on Saturday, July 26th in Anguilla, 14 young women will vie for the title. They will be judged in the categories of Promotional Speech, Future Shock, Swimwear, Talent, Evening Gown and Interview, the section that carries the most points. The winner will receive EC$5,000, 1st runner up – EC$1,500 and 2nd runner up – EC$1,000. Last yearâs winner Amber Woodley, of Anguilla, was a participant in the Miss Carival 2007 pageant.
Additionally, Adams will have a double opportunity to do SVG proud as she will be taking part in the 47th Annual Jayceesâ Caribbean Queen Show in Antigua, due to take place on Friday, August 1st. Avis Yorke will, once again, be her chaperone. She is expected to compete with 13 other contestants for the crown, and will be judged in Interview, Swimwear, Talent and Evening Wear. Among other gifts, the lucky winner will be given a trip on the Norwegian Cruise Line, a personal computer and jewellery from Diamonds International. The reigning Miss Jaycees Caribbean Queen is Miss Carival 2007, Leandra Lander, of Dominica.
Having placed 3rd runner up in the Miss SVG 2008 competition, Shanel Nanton will get the opportunity to represent SVG at the 3rd Annual Caribbean Culture Queen pageant in Nevis. Taking place tonight, Friday, July 25th, Nanton will be one of ten contestants battling for the top accolade. Chaperoned by Juanita Phillips, Miss SVG 2000, she left the state on Wednesday, July 23rd. The contestants will be judged in Island Wear and Promotional Speech, Swimwear, Talent, Evening Wear and Interview. A plethora of prizes will be bestowed upon the winner, including a Caribbean Cruise with EC$1,000 spending money and a digital camera. Yet another feather in her cap, Miss Carival 2007, Leandra Lander is the current Miss Caribbean Culture Queen.
It is expected that both Nekesha Adams and Shanel Nanton will perform to the best of their capabilities and in doing so, make Vincentians proud.
