Judges set to announce local Unsung Hero

The local branch of FirstCaribbean International has received a record number of nominations in its search for a 2008 Unsung Hero. According to local Unsung Hero Coordinator Aliethea Jackson, some thirty nominations were received when nominations closed at the end of June. It’s the highest number of nominations for St. Vincent and the Grenadines to date.{{more}}

The FirstCaribbean Unsung Heroes programme was first introduced in 2003. The programme seeks to recognize and honour people who have contributed selflessly to the development of their various communities with little or no reward. It’s conducted on two levels, nationally and regionally.

All seventeen countries in which First Caribbean operates hold a local event at which candidates are nominated and a winner selected. The local winner is then entered into the regional competition. Entries will be evaluated based on the impact of service to the community, as well as the time and sacrifice committed to these efforts.

Following an intense promotional campaign over the last few months, FirstCaribbean is pleased with the response to this year’s call for nominations. The local judging panel is expected to meet soon to decide who will become the next Unsung Hero and move on to the regional competition.

The Unsung Heroes programme is funded and administered by the FirstCaribbean International Comtrust Foundation.
