Bajan film nominated for Best International Feature Film
This summer the film âHit for Six!â gains momentum with an impressive running at various film festivals around the world. The film which was produced in Barbados has been nominated for the best Feature Film in the International Category at the International Film Festival South Africa 2008 which runs October 13-18.{{more}}
âItâs an honor to be selected for the festival and an even greater one to be nominated for an award,â stated Hit For Six! Writer-Director and Executive Producer, Alison Saunders.
âBased on the responses in the industry so far, we know our product is a good one and truly has great potential. This film will help to put Barbadian as well as Caribbean talent on the map, and we are going to go as far as we can with it,â Saunders-Franklyn added.
The film received enthusiastic responses at two festivals in the USA held in honour of the annual Caribbean-American Heritage Month celebrated in June – the Caribbean Heritage Film Festival (Orlando) in Florida which ran for the first time, and the D.C. Caribbean Film Festival in Washington .
Written, directed and produced in Barbados and Trinidad by Alison Saunders, Hit For Six! is the story of a playboy West Indies cricketer who must fight the demons of his past, including a match fixing charge. He learns about love while struggling for his last chance to play in a major global tournament and earn the respect of his estranged father, a former great West Indies player.
Following its world premiere in Barbados in April 2007 Hit For Six! won three awards at the Bridgetown Film Festival 2007 and then had a local run of five weeks at Olympus Theatres. The film has secured Caribbean-wide theatrical distribution deals for 14 countries through Palace Amusements of Jamaica and Trinidad-based Goldmine Entertainment. Most recently it ran for four weeks in Grenada at Movie Palace Cinema.
