Pamelus Burke Government School gets new Science Lab

Pupils of the Pamelus Burke Government School now have a place to conduct their science experiments.{{more}}

On Monday, June 2, a fully equipped Science Laboratory was officially handed over to the school by the National Fair Trade Organization. The Lab, which was funded by the Fair Trade organization, was completed at a cost of $40,000.

Headteacher Wane Dabriel said the Lab is a demonstration of the interest that Fair Trade has in developing the offspring of banana framers. He said the Lab would change the way Science is being taught at the school. He said students will have hands on experience and their manipulating and thinking skills will be developed. Dabriel stated that he would ensure that the Lab is fully utilized.

Jacqueline Glasgow-Browne, Acting Senior Education Officer said that she is really impressed with the facility. She said that the lab will create opportunities in the field of the science for the students. Browne noted that the lab is the only state of the art facility in a primary school in the country.

Meanwhile, chairman of the Fair Trade organization Philemon Allen said that his organization is about empowering the youths, and this initiative shows the confidence that farmers have in Fair Trade. Allen stated he is hoping that the youths will be totally involved in the use of the lab.

“I’m happy that we are involved in a worthwhile venture,” he said. Paul Anderson, chairman of the Byera Fair Trade organization, also addressed the gathering. (VM)
