Those are the fondest memories that Republic of China (Taiwan) Ambassador Jack Cheng will be taking back with him to his homeland when his tour of duty comes to an end in three weeks.

Ambassador Cheng officially announced that he will be returning to Taiwan, where he will receive a new appointment from the government of president-elect Ma Ying-Jeou.

Cheng made the announcement on Saturday morning following a friendly swim meet with members of the local media at the Young Island Resort.

The media houses accompanied the ambassador from the Young Island Dock to the resort.

The media houses present were Searchlight Newspaper, Agency for Public Information (API) and St. Vincent and the Grenadines Broadcasting Corporation (SVGBC).

Cheng thanked the people, the government, particularly Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sir Louis Straker, for the hospitality showed to him while here, and also for the congratulatory messages extended to the new government of Taiwan.

The ambassador indicated that he would miss being in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and promised to continue assisting Vincentians, even when he returns to Taiwan, and believes that his successor will continue to promote the friendship and commitment between the two countries.

Ambassador Cheng’s tour of duty comes to an end on May 20th.

Cheng, along with a delegation from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, which includes Governor General His Excellency Sir Frederick Ballantyne, will travel to Taiwan for Ma Ying-Jeou’s inauguration in May.

Ambassador Cheng indicated that though he has lots of warm memories from his 26 months here, the natural and fresh environment and food will always remain with him when he returns home.

CEO of Interactive Media Ltd Clare Keizer and Assistant Manager of SVGBC Richard MacLeish congratulated and thanked the Ambassador for his work here and wished him all the best.
