St. George’s University opens Nursing Program

St. George’s University, in Grenada, has announced a new programme for nurse hopefuls, developed to alleviate the regional and worldwide shortage of trained nurses. The announcement was made on Tuesday by Charles R. Modica, Chancellor of the University.{{more}}

“The programme allows students to enter directly into a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, reflecting the CARICOM’s stated goal of the BSN being the entry qualification for nurses by 2010. This degree also prepares nurses for administrative areas of the field -research, leadership and nursing informatics,” said Dr. Modica. “But students may alternatively choose to finish earlier with an Associate Degree, which will allow them to practice as a Registered Nurse.”

Students will study on the flagship St. George’s University campus, home to thousands of medical, veterinary, business and education students from around the world – over 135 countries have sent students to the school since its founding in 1977. More than 7,000 graduates from the University now work throughout the world.

Colin Dowe, Assistant Dean of Enrolment Planning for Admission, stated: “We will prepare the future nurses of the Caribbean, giving them the knowledge and skills they need to pass regional and international examinations – opening up the world of medicine and the world at large to them in our international community.”
