Gospel Fest kicks off with a bang

The heavenly rain that showered the Victoria Park last Saturday evening may have dampened persons’ outfits, but it was in no way able to dampen the spirits of those gathered to witness the sixth anniversary grand opening of the Digicel Gospel Fest.{{more}}

The rain definitely did not rain on anyone’s parade, as persons jumped and waved to the glory of God while the soulful gospel music flowed through their bodies. Even though it was not a massive turnout by any stretch of the imagination, Matthew Chapter 18, verse 20 of the Bible

quite rightly put it, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”

Celebrating under the theme: “Evening of Praise”, Chairman of the SVG Gospel Fest Committee, Fidel Taylor said that Gospel Fest serves an outlet for young people to showcase their many talents. More importantly, Taylor lamented the state which this country is in.

“There is an alarming rate of youth involved in the drug trade, the low tolerance level, teenage pregnancies, HIV and the rapid growing number of heinous crimes. You will see the importance of the Gospel Fest and the church in these situations,” said Taylor.

Patrons at the show were in for a special treat as the Cuffy Sisters of Trinidad and Tobago thrilled the crowd with an electrifying performance. Confetti blowing through the air, special lighting effects, dance and song performances were just some of the ways in which the sisters had the growd gyrating to their music despite the rain.

The night also saw last year’s most outstanding performer Junior Kelly, who spiritually fed the crowd with a heartfelt sermonette.

Other performances came from New Life Ambassadors, KLT Dancers, Diadem Dancers, Eden and the New Generation Gospel Band. Minister of Culture Rene Baptiste, and Public Relations Manager Eastern Caribbean, Digicel, Jerry George, also gave brief remarks at the opening. (KW)
