The contestants delivered in true toastmasterâs style, omitting clutch phrases, using appropriate body languages and proper vocalization to bring across their various points.
Jacinta Elliot, President of the club, in her welcoming remarks, stated that in the last six months, they have registered sixteen new members, some of whom participated in the contest. She further stated that in a relatively short period of time, the new members have âexperienced growth in self confidence and speech making.â
Elliot said that âcommunication is the key to success in all aspects of life and urged the audience to join Achievers in their âquest to create a culture of effective communication in St Vincent and the Grenadinesâ.
The speech that got the judges nod for number one in the prepared speech category was Francesca Onuâs âThinkâ in which she stated âAs a man thinketh, so is heâ. She outlined in her speech that âWhatever you think about you bring about.â
Taking the second position was Cicyln Joseph with âTo be or not to be emotionally intelligentâ. She pointed out that âProfessional women stifle their emotions to fit into the status quoâ. She stated that as women, we have to be emotionally intelligent.
In third place was Barbara Soso with âRetire unhurtâ. She told the audience that instead of leaving homes for our children, we should instead provide âsavings and investment plans during their early yearsâ. She told the audience that they could then use their homes as a âreverse mortgage, which pays you back for the value of your homeâ.
The winners in the table topics category were Eli Hamilton, in first place, and Gloria Williams, in second.
The winners are expected to represent St Vincent and the Grenadines at the Toastmasters Regional competition in May of this year in St Marteen.
