Union Island Easterval ‘best ever!’

Chairman of the Easterval Committee Lesroy Noel has described last weekend’s activities in Union Island as “The best ever!”.{{more}}

Speaking to Searchlight on Wednesday, Noel said that in terms of organization and crowd response, the whole weekend was “great”, and the best since they have been organizing the event over the last seven years. He said that this year’s Easterval received overwhelming response from visitors from other islands, especially the mainland.

Miss Union Island Enika Matthews walked away with the Miss Easterval crown on Saturday night at the Ashton Sporting Complex. Miss Barbados Chrishon Eli and Miss Grenada Louann Harford had to settle for second and third place, respectively.

On Sunday, the Ashton Sporting Complex was again a hive of activity with the Digicel and Hairoun sponsored Soca Fest.

The show featured performers from Grenada, Union Island and St. Vincent. The headliner Denise Belfon was a no-show, but the other performers, especially Fireman and Alla-G, put on such an outstanding performance, her absence was hardly noticed.

The Soca Fest took revelers straight into J’Ouvert Morning. The Easter weekend activities climaxed on Monday afternoon with t-shirt band jump up sponsored by b-mobile.

According to Noel, he and his 15-member committee are already looking forward to next year, which should be bigger and better. He said this year’s event was such a hit, sponsors are already lining up, eager to associate themselves with next year’s event.
