Martinique Hip Hop dance group M.D. Company visits SVG

M.D. Company, a Hip Hop dance organization from Martinique, visited St. Vincent and the Grenadines on 19th and 20th March through arrangements by the Alliance Francaise working in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture.{{more}}

The Alliance Francaise is an international body that promotes French language and culture around the world. In St. Vincent & the Grenadines they have been very instrumental in supporting the teaching of French in our schools and through their programming have facilitated many visits by performers from the French speaking Caribbean islands.

With M.D. Company, the Alliance Francaise arranged for three members to visit this country. On the first day of their visit they conducted two workshops. One session was for primary school students and one for secondary students and community groups. The workshops were well attended with over seventy (70) persons participating in all. On the second day of their visit, Holy Thursday, they presented an intense hip hop dance drama.

The crowd was small but very appreciative. At the end of their dance they invited several of the older small but very appreciative. At the end of their dance they invited several of the older participants of the workshop to “free style” with them. In offering comments the group leader Milome David, said he was pleased with the level of talent he observed among the students.

Director of the local the Alliance Francaise, Laure Chiquillo, extended an invitation to our local dance groups to participate in the next Caraib Hip-Hop festival. This will take place in Martinique in October 2009.
