Glen Baptist Church celebrates 25 years of God’s faithfulness

From their humble beginnings as a small bible study group in the village of Glen, to a 140 plus strong membership at Villa Flat, the leadership of the Glen Baptist Church can say that they have come a long way as they celebrate their silver anniversary.{{more}}

Celebrating under the theme “Celebrating 25 years of God’s faithfulness, committed to kingdom building,” the church, led by Pastor Sylvester King, will host a number of activities throughout the year.

The calendar of activities got started with a press conference last Monday at the church in Villa, and will continue with the next major event being a week of entrepreneurial development training seminars for members as well as persons in the community.

This takes place from March 3rd to 11th and is being done in conjunction with the Centre for Enterprise Development.

Also in March, the church hosts an Easter Gala, featuring a film show, at the Calliaqua Playing Field.

The remainder of the year sees a seminar on protocol and etiquette in April, a marriage conference in May, a mission trip to Grenada and community health day in July, the anniversary service on August 24th and Independence Extravaganza and tree planting ceremony in October.

King, speaking at the press conference, said that although the church has been around and gone through so much, its mission of bringing the gospel to the masses remains the same, but his passion in the ministry is to develop a community of believers, which is geared towards the development of the whole man.

“The time has come when the church must provide a holistic approach to our development. Gone are the days when the church is just an open hall. We want the church to be a kind of spirit that encourages people to come together.”

The pastor, who is also a youth officer in the Ministry of Tourism, Youth and Sport, indicated that the church has encountered various challenges over the years, the biggest being without a shepherd from 2001 to 2004. These he said have helped the congregation to grow from strength to strength.(JJ)
