Computer literacy training for inmates

Twenty four inmates of Her Majesty’s Prisons are currently undergoing training in computer literacy, thanks to the works of Rotary Club of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and a number of corporate sponsors.{{more}}

The two-week long programme, which got started on Monday at the prisons, will see inmates participating in eight hours of quality training, facilitated by Nelly Peters.

Peters’ services, along with two computers were supplied by one of the major contributors to the programme: accessories and training provider Computec.

Manager of Computec Michael John informed the prison officials as well as the Rotary club, that his company is committed to working along with them in future endeavors and urged the participants to make the most of the opportunity provided.

The call for making use of the training also came from Chief Prison officers Brenton Charles and Brian Andrews as well as Hugh Wyllie, representing the Ministry of Education and the Adult Literacy Program.

President of the Rotary Club of St. Vincent Dr. Simeon Norton in his address, indicated that this programme is just another of the many services rendered around St. Vincent and the Grenadines over the years.

Norton also indicated that a halfway house for ex inmates is one of the Clubs’ dreams.

Other contributors to the programme are the Rotary clubs of Dublin and Greene-Putnam Georgia, who donated cash and books, Cable and Wireless (SVG) Ltd who gave four computers, an all-in-one printer from Courts, signs and labels from Multi Graphic Services and two step-down transformers from Singer.
