Office attendant needs surgery

Elizabeth Hazell has been employed at the Magistrate’s Court in Kingstown for the past 32 years. For all those years she has been a world of help to persons with whom she has come into contact.{{more}}

Now it’s the turn of Hazell’s coworkers to extend a helping hand during her time of need.

The 55-year-old Hazell requires hip replacement surgery, which, according to co-worker Mailes Bascombe, will cost up to EC $40,000.

Bascombe said that Hazell has great difficulty walking, and is currently doing so with the help of a cane.

The court clerk and other members of staff are currently involved in a fund raising drive, in an effort to help to pay for Hazell’s surgery.

Today, the staff will be juggling their time between court cases and a pelau sale. They will be selling meals from their office in Paul’s Avenue to supporters of the cause.

Bascombe indicated that persons wishing to have the local delicacy delivered to them should call the office at 457-1091.

Plans are also in the making for a barbecue on March 2nd at the Magistrate’s Court, with other events to take place in the near future.

A thrift sale was held two weeks ago.

Bascombe said that despite Hazell’s disposition, and the death of her husband just three months ago, the Campden Park resident and mother of three is in good spirits and hopeful of getting treated soon. (JJ)
