Digicel boosts Adult Education

Mobile telecommunications provider Digicel is helping in the fight against adult illiteracy.

The company donated 63 Sony Ericsson J110i cell phones to the Adult and Continuing Education Unit with a network plan, so that facilitators in that sector could better communicate with each other.{{more}}

Adult and Continuing Education Unit Director Hugh Wyllie gladly received the mobile handsets and pointed out that the gesture will not only ensure that their phone bills will be lower but will guarantee that the programme runs more smoothly.

Wyllie explained: “Because of the nature of our work as a department with 10 zones throughout the country, we have to stay in constant contact with each other. This Digicel plan has been tailored to suit our communication needs and we can now communicate more easily without giving the Ministry of Education a high phone bill.”

Digicel Corporate Account Executive Gershom Dick who presented the phones said Digicel has been well known for supporting sports and culture but they are now pleased to be associated in alleviating the war against illiteracy.

Dick also emphasized that the 63 donated Digicel handsets working on a network system will significantly reduce costs, since Digicel was a viable alternative to telecommunications.
