Nine Mornings committee hosts prize giving ceremony
With only about 333 days left to go before the next Nine Mornings celebrations, plans are already being made and challenges issued, for what may be the biggest community lighting competition as the National Nine Mornings Committee moves towards celebrating ten years of organizing Nine Mornings events.{{more}}
A sneak peek into plans for the 2008 edition of the celebrations, which takes place from December 16th to 24 yearly, was given by Leroy Llewellyn of the Sion Hill community at the Nine Mornings Committeeâs 2007 prize giving ceremony at the Cruise Ship Complex last Saturday.
Llewellyn indicated that his community, which placed first in Zone 2 of the VINLEC sponsored competition, aims to have the best outing of lights this year, after being hampered by the late arrival of lights last year.
He promised more lights, more activities and a bigger cultural package, which may feature top regional performers.
Winners of zone one and overall champions Rose Bank, who out shone all other competitors for the second year running, indicated that any community wishing to take the title in 2008 needs to bring their best game, as they intend to make it a hat trick.
Other winners in last yearâs competition include the Cane Hall Roundabout as the best lit garden, best lit private house went to Olivia Dasilva, with the SOL most improved community award going to Layou.
The community of Carriere won the Digicel Best Christmas Community award, as well as the National Lotteries Authority best Nine Mornings community award.
The song âChristmas Partyâ, known as the road march of Christmas, was adjudged the National Commercial Bank most popular local Christmas song.(JJ)
