Man dies after falling from truck

While most Vincentians spent the last few days anticipating the New Year, two Owia families used the time trying to come to grips with the death of a loved one.

The Williams and John families received bad news on Saturday, December 29, 2007, that 27-year-old Roy John of Owia, had fallen from a truck at the Diamond Public Road and had sustained serious injuries to his head.{{more}}

At the time of the accident, John was traveling on the back of motor vehicle TQ 474, owned by TOQ Construction Company and driven by Irvin May of Sandy Bay. Reports claim that the truck was heading to Owia from Kingstown when its wooden cargo skated off the tray, carrying John with it.

The young man, who was rushed to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, died the following day.

Relatives claim that he was easy going and had no children.

“These incidents come in all shapes,” said Selma Williams, one of John’s cousins, while explaining that she was quietly accepting his mishap.

A total of eight motor vehicle accidents were reported to the police over the weekend. While seven took place in the out districts, only one occured in Kingstown.

A postmortem examination was expected to be performed on the body to ascertain the cause of death.(HN)
